Professor Alison Elliott honoured with an OBE award for services to Medicine and Global Health
In recognition of her dedication and services to medicine and global health, Professor Alison Elliott was honoured with an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) award in King Charles III’s 2025 New Year Honours. Prof. Elliott is Professor of Tropical Medicine at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and theme leader for vaccines research at the Medical Research Council/Uganda Virus Research Institute and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (MRC/UVRI and LSHTM) Uganda Research Unit. She has been an active part of HypoVax Global from our inception as a partner and advisor.
The award of OBE is one of the highest honours in the United Kingdom and is a testament to Prof. Elliott’s remarkable achievements and lasting impact. Based at the MRC/UVRI & LSHTM Uganda Research Unit since 1996 and in Zambia before that, Prof. Elliott has been the principal investigator on a number of studies examining the impact of co-infections on responses to vaccines including the POPVAC clinical trials. She has also been a dedicated and enthusiastic investigator on several collaborative research projects. This prestigious award also recognises her outstanding contribution to building biomedical research capacity in Zambia and Uganda as well as her continued commitment to training and mentoring a new generation of African researchers.
Congratulations to Prof. Elliott for this well-deserved honour!
